X (formerly Twitter) has expressed interest in potentially introducing a dislike buton on the platform. This feature is rumored to be in the testing stages with a small percentage of users. X users are reacting in a variety of ways, with many expressing unhappiness with this potential change to the site.
The social media platform has seen an increase in negativity and harassment on the site with bots running rampant, and some users feel that the addition of a dislike button will only increase negativity on the platform and make the app more toxic. Others fear that likes and dislikes on posts could change how information is filtered on the platform.
It has not been confirmed whether or not the dislike button will become a legitimate feature on the app, but the data from the testing period will likely determine the likelihood of the feature being implemented.

Residents of Houston, Texas recently found an unlikely hero in the Whataburger mobile app, when an X (formerly Twitter) user with the username BBQBryan discovered that the Whataburger location app was a good way to track what areas of the city were with and without power. The local utility company, CenterPoint Energy, does not have an app or outage tracker, which has been frustrating for the 1.8 million Houstonians who have been without power following the effects of Hurricane Beryl.
The official Whataburger X account responded to BBQBryan’s post about the discovery by saying, “Well there’s a use for our app we didn’t think of! We hope you and everyone else are okay!” BBQBryan’s post, which now has over 35,000 likes, has boosted Whataburger’s download numbers, pushing it to 16th place in the food and drink category on the iOS App Store.
