Let’s recap this week’s cybersecurity news, including fresh attacks and new information that has been released about older attacks.

Earlier this year, Kootenai Health experienced a data security incident in which an unknown individual gained access to sensitive information stored in their network. Kootenai Health became aware of this incident when they noticed “unusual activity that disrupted certain IT systems.”

In April, after Kootenai had launched an investigation into the incident and sent out a letter to affected patients, a complaint was filed in US District Court claiming that Kootenai Health was not compliant with industry standards for protecting customer data. This report also demands them to release details about what sensitive information was stolen during the attack. A class action lawsuit has now been filed.

Transport for London, a major public transportation company in London, UK,  has  been the target of a cyber attack that is currently ongoing. Currently, TfL services are still functioning normally and it doesn’t appear that any customer data was stolen.

Suspicious activity was first noticed on Sunday, mainly affecting the corporate headquarters which seems to be the main target of the attack, and action was immediately taken to limit access and get the attack under control.

Even though systems are still working, some access to customer journey information and travel data via apps has been restricted. This incident is currently being investigated by the National Crime Agency (NCA).

Halliburton, a well-known oil and gas giant was recently the target of a cyber attack connected to RansomHub in which the company’s sensitve data was stolen by an unauthorized third party. This caused the company to experience IT system and business disruptions as the incident forced them to take some systems offline to mitigate the attack.

This incident is currently under investigation as Halliburton works to determine the scope of the breach.

Earlier this year, Ally Bank computer systems were access by an unauthorized third party. The unauthorized party was able to gain access to customers’ names, social securitry numbers, birthdates, and auto account numbers. The information stolen varies depending on the individual.

It appears that the incident stemmed from an incident at one of Ally’s third-party vendors. Letters were sent out to customers to alert them of the incident after conducting an investigation into the matter.

The Seattle-Tacoma airport is still recovering from the recent cyber attack that occurred on August 24th of this year that caused outages, delays and cancelled flights, increased wait times, and more.

The delays and long TSA wait times that were present due to the attack have mostly been resolved and are now minimal. The attack is still being investigated, but the airport does not currently believe that any personal data was stolen, and they are unsure of what exactly the hackers motive was.
