After a massive data breach exposed personal information belonging to over 335,000 Washington residents who utilize the Pierce County Library System earlier this year, two class-action lawsuits have been filed against the library, claiming they failed to have adequate security measures in place and neglected to notify victims within a timely manner.

In April, hackers gained access to the library’s systems and stole files that included the names and birthdates of library patrons, as well as SSNs and government ID numbers belonging to current and former employees. Victims of the breach were not notified of the incident until more than two months had passed since the conclusion of the library’s investigation.
