The company detected suspicious activity in its network on December 18th, immediately prompting security action and an investigation. It has been confirmed that 6,766 people in the US have been affected, mostly including former and current employees. Those impacted have had their names, SSNs, addresses, birth dates, and government-issued IDs exposed.

    Verizon Customer Data Exposed

A cyber attack on Russell Cellular has led Verizon to launch investigation into the incident involving one of its largest authorized retailers in the US.

6.2 million customer records have been posted for sale for $1,200 on a popular hacking forum. The data included in the hacker’s files allegedly include names, contact information, account numbers, device identifiers, invoices and tracking numbers, contract details, device models and plans, and employee account access information.

This leak is the most concerning for Verizon, as some of the employee account credentials include plaintext passwords and may lead to attackers attempting to access internal systems. Verizon is still investigating the incident.
