Charter Communications Breached
ShinyHunters has breached one of the largest telecommunications companies in America, Charter Communications.
The notorious hacking group had seemingly been in ransom negotiations with the company, but failed to reach an agreement, leading the group to post data belonging to Charter on its dark web leak site.
Charter states that no sensitive data was stolen, but ShinyHunters claims to have released 42 million of the company’s records, including 13 million customer records and nearly 27,000 employee records. The data allegedly includes full names, email addresses, home and company addresses, and support ticket details in the case of customers. Employees had work emails, job titles, and home addresses compromised.
Charter says they are aware of the situation and are “following security protocols and working with appropriate authorities.”

6 Million Carnival Cruise Customers Had Their Data Exposed
We touched on this story a couple of weeks ago, but more has been revealed, making this story a top headline for this week.
Nearly 6 million Carnival cruise lines passengers have had their personal information exposed after a recent data breach. The breach was discovered in mid-April after an employee fell victim to a social engineering attack, giving the hackers access to the IT system.
Even though Carnival acted quickly, the attackers still managed to steal a significant amount of customer information including names, addresses, contact information, birth dates, government ID numbers, and more.
Affected passengers are being notified via email and offered 2 years of free credit monitoring with TransUnion.

Instagram AI Chatbot Breach
Hackers talked Meta’s AI support chatbot into giving them access to high-profile accounts on the platform.
The attackers persuaded the chatbot to reset credentials for high profile accounts like Sephora, a senior US Space Force official, and more without the need to verify identity.
Meta states that this major issue was resolved, and the affected accounts have been secured.
