Mars Hydro, a smart home device manufacturer, recently fell victim to a data breach which exposed 2.7 billion records of sensitive information.

The data compromised in this attack includes wi-fi passwords, device IDs and information, API tokens, and app version details. Unauthorized parties having access to this information opens up these devices and their users to multiple potential attack methods. It’s being recommended that users change their Wi-Fi password, update their devices, and segment their networks.

1,135 members of the US Coast Guard experienced delayed processing of their bi-weekly pay after the service’s system was hit by a data breach which pushed them to take the personnel and payroll system offline to mitigate the attack.

The incident was discovered after a report of unusual activity, and was revealed to have impacted service members’ direct deposit account information. The system was down for a few days for maintenance following the breach and was restored on Feb 19th. Pay was expedited to affected individuals, and those who had their data compromised in the incident were notified via email.
