A 2023 data breach that affected TD Bank is now being faced with a $5 million+ class-action lawsuit for the incident. The bank reportedly knew of the incident “for some time” before alerting customers.

Affected individuals are still unsure what data was stolen and what steps, if any, are being taken to secure customer information, but it is known that Social Security and account numbers were compromised in the breach. In an email sent to customers, it was stated that a TD Bank employee accessing and potentially selling customer information to an unauthorized third party is believed to be the cause of the incident. The class-action lawsuit against TD Bank claims that the bank failed to protect customers from a “massive and preventable” breach.
