    This Week in Cybersecurity

Each week at Applied Tech we recap the biggest cybersecurity news headlines from the week to keep you informed and ready to face the latest threats. Here’s your breakdown for the week of April 11th – April 17th.

    OneDigital Data Breach

OneDigital has disclosed that around 28,414 people have had their information compromised in a recent data breach at Salesforce, which the company uses for customer relationship management.

The incident at Salesforce happened mid-to-late last year and investigation was launched soon after client data “was potentially accessed and copied by an unauthorized actor.” Compromised data varies but includes names and SSNs of clients.

OneDigital stated in its notification letter to affected customers that there is currently no evidence that the data is being misused, and the company is offering free credit and identity theft monitoring services to the victims.

    Grand Theft Data

Infamous ransomware group ShinyHunters strikes again! This time, targeting Rockstar Games after a successful breack on Anodot, a third-party business analytics company used by the game developer.

The breach gave ShinyHunters access to Rockstar’s Snowflake servers, and allowed access to corporate information such as contracts, financials, marketing plans, KPIs, and more, but did not compromise the data of any players of Rockstar’s games other than support tickets.

The ransomware gang began holding Rockstar to an ultimatum: “pay or leak” with a deadline of April 14th, stating that if they do not meet demands by the provided date, they will cause “several annoying (digital) problems.”

This is a well-timed attack and could have serious consequences for Rockstar Games as they prepare to launch the highly anticipated game Grand Theft Auto 6 later this year.

    McGraw-Hill Data Breach

In our second ShinyHunters story of this week’s cybersecurity news recap, the group has stolen and leaked information related to 13.5 million McGraw-Hill user accounts.

This breach is also related to the recent Salesforce compromise that has affected multiple businesses. In McGraw-Hill’s case, only a limited set of data hosted by Salesforce was accessed that includes names and contact information. This information was publicly distributed by ShinyHunters.
